Over the years, a lot of people have been quite vocal in expressing their doubts about equestrian being part of the prestigious Olympics, the greatest sports competition on Earth. However, there are quite a lot of reasons why it is perfect for the Olympics. Here are four of them:
1. Equestrian is a sport where men can compete with women.
In an equestrian competition, men compete with women and vice versa. All competitions are for both genders; there are no male or female categories. The competition is fair and square and respects both genders.
2. Equestrian also does not depend too much on the weight of its competitors.
In equestrian, anybody from any age group can join the show. Age diversity is a big thing in this event. In one event, the youngest rider can be 18 years old, while the oldest can be 70. And the best thing about this is that these two riders can compete against each other. This is one of the things that make equestrian an interesting and exciting Olympic event.
3. Every equestrian event is a visual feast.
From the outfits of the riders (complete with a tap hat) to the incredibly well-groomed horses to the dressed up venues. Everything is lively, exciting, and colorful. Photographers love taking action photos because they almost always come out as visually stunning. No other sport in the Olympics is as visually stunning as equestrian.
4. Equestrian is the only Olympic event where the horse is the star of the show.
No other Olympic event has animals in them, only equestrian. And instead of putting the limelight on the male and female riders alone, the horses share the limelight. In fact, the horses are the stars of the show. They always manage to steal the limelight from their human counterparts. Proof that equestrian horses are the kings in this Olympic event: they have their own psychologists!
